Hegg Companies Submit Petition To Vacate Chapelle Street For Development Project

PIERRE — Steps continue to move the former Pierre City Hall site into a major downtown development. The Pierre City Commission has accepted a petition by the Hegg Companies of Sioux Falls to vacate the 300 block of South Chapelle Street. City Planner Sharon Pruess says the city is required to hold a public hearing on the request…

Mayor Steve Harding says the vacation request is the next part in bringing new opportunities to the Capital City…

If the vacation request is approved, Chapelle will split evenly to the properties on either side. The city will transfer its properties to the Pierre Economic Development Corporation, who will in turn, sell it for the city to Hegg Companies. Site prep is likely to begin this fall with demolition of building on the site with construction to get underway in 2023. The site, as planned, will host an 80-room hotel, 60-unit apartment and office and retail space along with street parking
