USF Announces the Addition of Men’s and Women’s Wrestling

There was some big wrestling news in the state of South Dakota on Monday as the University of Sioux Falls announced it will have both men’s and women’s wrestling.

The men’s wrestling program returns after being dropped in 2011 and it will be the second women’s wrestling program in the NSIC. As high school girls wrestling continues to take off in the state, the in-state college wrestling is a big bonus.

The Pierre area is not a stranger to the wrestling game, including women’s wrestling, as the Pierre girls team won the first ever team state championship this past season and has already seen multiple state champions in its first two years of existence. With the addition of the men’s program back to USF, it’s another option for the Governor boys to wrestle in state. Shawn Lewis, head coach of the Pierre boys program says it’s good to get another school locally…

Lewis says as the interest level continues to grow in wrestling is due to women’s wrestling…

It’s the second in state school to offer girls wrestling…

The Cougars will begin participating in wrestling in the fall of 2023.
