While the season was going to come to an end, Pierre played its best game of the tournament as the 14U squad shutout Mitchell 9-0 to close its state tournament in Pierre.
Hudson Shaffer had three RBIs as he went 2-2 in the ball game as eight different Eights picked up a hit in the shutout victory. Both Alex Hughes and Ayden Behm each doubled for Pierre for the extra base hits. Bridger Babcock and Shaffer combined for the seven inning shutout as Babcock allowed just one hit in six innings of work and four strikeouts. Shaffer allowed two hits in the seventh but worked out of the jam to close the door and pick up the final win of the year for Pierre.
The 14U team finishes the season at 10-22 and 1-2 in the state tournament.
