The Onida Post 79 14U VFW team went 0-2 over the weekend in the State Tournament as the offense sputtered for just three runs in two games.
On Friday, Onida was shutout 15-0 to Parkston Blue. Both Jett Yackley and Connor Yackley had the only hits for Onida in the ballgame as Parkston used a nine run third inning to expand its lead to insurmountable spot.
On Saturday, Onida fell 8-3 to Hamlin as they were bounced out of the tournament by the host team. Wesley Wittler scored the only run of the weekend as he came into score on a wild pitch as Hamlin walked four batters in the inning. Hamlin scored three runs in the third and a run in the first, second and fourth to control the game throughout.
Clark Area took home the consolation championship while Mount Vernon/Plankinton was third and at the time of the writing, the championship game between Parkston Blue and Centerville had not been completed.
