Behind Bennett Dean’s six inning outing and Lincoln Kienholz two run home run, Pierre Post 8 is now one win away from making the state tournament after beating Renner 6-4 on the road on Friday.
Post 8 picked up an unearned run in the top of the first as Jett Zabel had a sacrifice fly. Dean worked out of trouble in the first and with the first three reaching base in the second, Dean induced a ground ball to start at 1-6-3 double play and limit the damage to one run allowed. Jayden Wiebe doubled home the go-ahead run in the top of the third, his first of two doubles and then Dean in the bottom half of the inning, loaded the bases with nobody out and escaped the jam without allowing a run. Kienholz unloaded a two run homer in the fifth, and Zabel drove in his second run of the game and Pierre controlled the game at 6-1. Kienholz finished out the game with the final two outs picking up his second save of the season in the 6-4 victory.
Pierre will look for a sweep of Renner on Saturday. First pitch is at 12:00 with coverage at 11:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call. If Renner wins, the final game, game three will follow.
