Hughes County Sets Hearing Date For North Bend Conditional Use Permit

PIERRE — A conditional use permit for a proposed wind farm that would be constructed in part in Hughes County will get a hearing next week. The Hughes County Board of Adjustment will consider North Bend’s request for the permit on Wednesday July 27th at 5:30 PM. The hearing will be conducted in the large courtroom on the third floor of the Hughes County Courthouse. The North Bend Wind Farm as proposed would include 71 turbines with a 200 megawatt capacity. The farm would be constructed on the Hughes/Hyde County border. Hyde County has previously approved a conditional use permit. The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission indefinitely paused the pending docket on the project until the Hughes County action is considered. Up to 27 of the 71 proposed turbines are set to be placed in Hughes County under current planning. Remote access to the hearing will be provided by calling 667-770-1890 and entering access code 553-45-66.
