Chip Sealing Planned To Start Next Week North Of Pierre

PIRERRE — The South Dakota Department of Transportation is preparing for road projects across Hughes, Stanley and Sully Counties. Pierre Area Engineer Dean VanDeWiele says chip seal and fog sealing projects will begin next Monday north and east of the Oahe Dam. The projects will cover South Dakota Highway 204 over the Oahe Dam and South Dakota Highway 1804 at mile marker 251. Chip sealing will begin in the Cow/Spring Creek area and move south toward Highway 204 at the east end of the Oahe Dam. From there, work will move west over the Dam to the Stanley County side at Highway 1806. The sealing operations then return to the Hughes County side to finish 1804 all the way to U-S Highway 14 at the Mickelson Law Enforcement Training Center. Crews will then return north to finish the remaining leg to Cow and Spring Creek. Chip sealing should take about five days to complete with the fog sealing another two. Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the work with flaggers and pilot cars in operation. Delays of up to 15 minutes could be expected. Loose gravel could be on road surfaces up to 72 hours after application. Speed limits will be 40 miles an hour or the speed limit, whichever is less.
