This time of the year, nothing comes easy. For Post 8, it would ring true on Wednesday as they were able to get a 4-0 win in game one and have to come back and walk-off Sturgis in the bottom of the eighth in game two with a 7-6 win.
Lincoln Kienholz was dominant again on the mound for Pierre as he fired another complete game shutout striking out 13 in the ball game allowing just three hits and one walk. The Eights scored all four runs in the first inning with RBI hits from Jayden Wiebe, Bennett Dean and Grayson Hunsley. Jack Merkwan had an RBI fielder’s choice as it was all Pierre needed in the first game win.
Then in game two, Sturgis scored three runs in the third and another in the fourth and fifth leading 5-0 over Pierre heading into the bottom half of the inning. Brecken Krueger doubled home the first run before Wiebe singled home Krueger to make it 5-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Pierre would tied the game up as Krueger brought in George Stalley to make it 5-4 and it was Matt Hanson’s RBI single to tie the game up. Sturgis would take the lead back in the top of the seventh on a wild pitch before Merkwan tied it back up in the bottom half with another RBI single. Merkwan would get a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the eighth and with two outs and runners at second and third, a wild pitch scored Kienholz for Pierre to walkoff a winner.
