Post 8 Splits Doubleheader at Gopher Classic Saturday

Pierre Post 8 is now 1-3 at the Gopher Classic this weekend with a win in the first game of the day over Omaha Westside 6-5 while dropping its second game 6-1 on Saturday.

Brecken Kreuger notched the win on the mound for the Eights as he continues to be a strong and steady presence for Pierre this summer. He went six innings allowing four runs, just one earned, on seven hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Jack Merkwan earned the save in relief giving up just a run in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Bennett Dean and Jonny Lyons each had two RBIs in the win as Gary Nedved tallied the only extra base hit. Pierre opened up a 3-0 lead after two innings and never surrendered it to Omaha.

In game two of the day, Nedved drove in Pierre’s only run to give the Eights a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. However, Maple Grove answered back in the first inning and then scored two in the second, one in the third and another two in the fourth to beat the Eights in the fourth game of the weekend. Connor Bruce give up four earned runs on 10 hits, three walks and a strikeout as he went the distance on the mound. Pierre had just three hits in the entire ballgame, none for extra bases.

The Eights will finish the weekend at 9:00 AM on Sunday against Chanhassen. Pierre will be back at home on Wednesday to take on Sturgis with just six games remaining, all against South Dakota opponents.
