Kienholz Outstanding in Shutout of Post 22 Hardhats

The biggest win to date for Pierre Post 8 came on the shoulders of Lincoln Kienholz who struck out 15 in a complete game 3-0 shutout of Rapid City Post 22 on Wednesday.

A team needing a win to dig back into an inconsistent season, Kienholz helped provide the answer as he was stellar the Eights. He drove in the games first run which proved to be the game winner, but struck out 11 of the first 12 recorded outs while allowing just three hits and one walk through four innings. He retired 12 of the last 13 men he faced and finished on the mound with a 105 pitches in the win. Brecken Krueger scored the second run off a double steal and Bennett Dean provided the last part of offense with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth, his second of the season, but first leaving the yard.

It didn’t come without some frustration though. The Eights stranded the bases loaded with nobody out in the bottom of the first, then stranded them loaded again in the bottom of the fifth with one out. In the sixth inning, the first four men reached base, but nobody scored as two were thrown out trying to steal and advance on a pitch in the dirt. Pierre left 12 men on base in the game, but still got a big 50 seed point win. Brian White, manager of Post 8, says it was a big win for the Eights…

White says, though, they need to start executing on offense…

But good teams find ways to win when they’re not at their best and White says they found a way…

The Eights will be in Maple Grove this weekend for the Gopher Classic playing Friday at 9:00 and 2:00 in its first of five pool play games. There will NOT be broadcasts this weekend on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. You can follow along on the Gamechanger app for video.
