Fort Pierre Man Sentenced To Nearly 30 Years On Federal Sex Crime Charge

PIERRE — A Fort Pierre man has been sentenced to nearly 30 years in federal prison. U-S Attorney Alison Ramsdell says 40 year-old James Cadwell was sentenced Tuesday June 21st to 28 years in federal custody. Cadwell’s sentence includes seven years of probation upon his release. Cadwell was indicted on a federal charge of Sexual Exploitation of a Child. He entered a guilty plea March 3rd. Ramsdell says Cadwell was taking care of the victim on October 26th of 2020 in Pierre when the crime took place. She says Cadwell knowingly coerced the minor victim into engaging in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of recording the conduct. Recordings of the crime were made on a mobile phone and shared on a computer. Cadwell was turned over to the U-S Marshal’s Service to begin serving his sentence.
