Pierre Post 8 collected just two hits Sunday morning in its semifinal loss to Brainerd, Minnesota dropping a 3-1 decision.
Bennett Dean was excellent on the mound for the Eights going all seven innings and giving his team a chance for a win. He spread out 10 hits over the seven innings, just two extra base hits, while allowing just two earned runs without a walk and had one strike out. But the bats weren’t there for Pierre like they had been in the first two games of the tournament. Brecken Krueger had the first Post 8 hits in the fifth innings with Jack Schafer going three and a third of perfect baseball before allowing a walk. Isaac Polak drove in Pierre’s only run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little too late for Eights dropping the semifinal contest of the JD Memorial tournament.
Pierre finishes the extended weekend at 2-2 and will now head to Mitchell on Wednesday to face currently the top team in the state. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5:00 with coverage at 4:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
