Trappers Split Doubleheader with Red River

The Pierre Trappers and Red River Pilots would split a doubleheader on Thursday with the Pilots taking game one 9-2 and the Trappers coming back for a 4-1 win in the night cap.

In game one, the Pilots used a five run fourth inning to extend its lead out to 7-1 after the Trappers opened up the bottom of the first with an RBI sacrifice fly from Tynan Shahidi to take a 1-0 lead. Casey Kostrzewa was tagged with the loss giving up all nine runs, eight of them earned in four and a third innings on two hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

In game two , Kaleb Hay went all nine innings allowing an unearned run on five hits, two walks and 15 strikeouts. The only run scored in the top of the third for the Pilots. Hunter Brown doubled in the first run of the game and then scored on a wild pitch to give the Trappers a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Pierre would tack on another run in the bottom of the second with a Kolby Rich single and then a double in the bottom of the fourth by Jacob Griffin.

Pierre is now 6-13 on the season and will be in Sioux Falls this weekend for a round robin event with the other three Expedition League teams. Friday’s game will be at 4:35 against the North Iowa Ragin’ Roosters.
