Primary Election Brings Local Elections, Sheriff Races To Central South Dakota

PIERRE — There were plenty of area races held in Tuesday night’s primary election. In addition to the Pierre School Board, school board races were open in the Chamberlain and Lyman County districts. In the Lyman School District, Veronica Gerard; Cody Volmer and Nathan Millard won seats in a five-person race while Nikkie Ashley won a seat on the Chamberlain School Board. Chamberlain and Kimball had city races open. Timothy Thomas and Clint Soulek won seats on the Chamberlain City Commission. In Kimball Donnie Hamiel defeated Janene Wingert for mayor 133 to 63 and Brady Goodall won the Ward II Alderman race; defeating Jesslon Walsh 44-28. Three counties only had Sheriff races on the ballot. In Dewey County Jeff Ward beat Charles Lecompte 200 to 190. Timothy Peet received 26 votes in the race. Shane Croeni defeated Jim Henson for Hand County Sheriff 568 to 354. And in the biggest margin of the night, incumbent Potter County Sheriff Curt Hamburger easily retains his seat; picking up 91-percent of the vote over three challengers.
