Oahe Project Open For Tours Again After Suspending Visits During Pandemic

PIERRE — For the first time in over two years, the Oahe Dam powerhouse is opening up for tours. Tours of the project facility were suspended in the early phases of the Covid-19 pandemic. Public walk-in tours are available for the public Wednesday to Saturday from now until September 5th. Tours begin at the Oahe Visitor Center located on the east side of the dam near the junction of state highways 204 and 1806. Those taking tours should arrive at least 10 minutes before the tour to sign in. Identification is required for any adult touring the powerhouse and no cell phones, cameras or weapons are allowed inside. The Oahe Visitor Center is operating on summer hours from nine-AM to noon and one-PM to four, Monday through Saturday. Tours of the Oahe Project last from 60 to 90 minutes long. Hours can vary due to staffing.
