Laramie Defeats Pierre in Veteran’s Classic Opener

Pierre Post 8 jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but it was all they could muster in a 6-1 loss to the Laramie Rangers on Thursday in the first game of the Veteran’s Classic for Pierre.

Bennett Dean drove in the game’s only run on a sacrifice fly as the Eights jumped out to the lead. Laramie scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third before Garrett Dodd launched a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth to start a four run inning for the Rangers to take control for good. Jackson Edman went four and a third innings in the start allowing six runs, four earned on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Gary Nedved came in relief for the final inning and a third and was not charged with a run. Tayton Moore for Laramie spread out three hits over five and two thirds innings on just 61 pitches allowing his only run to be unearned in the win. Jack Merkwan had two hits for Pierre while Jayden Wiebe and Dean had the other two for Pierre.

The Eights, now 0-3, will be looking for its first win of the season on Friday as they take on Cheyenne who opened up the tournament with a win over Mitchell. First pitch is at 10:00 AM Central Time with coverage at 9:45 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
