Pierre City Commission Takes Emergency Action To Replace Baling Facility Scale

PIERRE — The Pierre City Commission has approved emergency action to replace the scale at the city baling facility. Solid Waste Manager Val Keller says the scale failed an April state inspection…

The state will allow the city to use the scale as long as action is taken to replace it. Keller says the scale is over 35 years old…

The concrete decking will be replaced by steel decking which will be more economical for the city…

The city is required to weigh all of the material that comes to the site. If the scale fails before the replacement arrives the city would have to rent a scale, likely at significant cost. The scale could take eight to ten months to receive. The cost of the replacement scale could be 110 to 120-thousand dollars which would be included in the 2023 city budget.
