Starting today in Sioux Falls all three classes will gather at Howard Wood Field to compete in the 2022 Track and Field State Championships. The first day will feature 18 state champions in 14 categories.
Class AA
For the Pierre Governors, Reese Terwilliger, Emily Lingle and Maya Shorter will throw the shot put as Aleise Christopherson will participate in the long jump, Marissa Mathews in the pole vault and Blake Wagner in the discus throw. The 4×800 relay team for Pierre girls will also compete.
Class A
The Stanley County Buffaloes will not have any of its athletes compete for a state championship on Thursday.
Class B
In Class B the Sully Buttes Chargers will have Lydia Hill and Addison Chicoine throw the shot put. Skyler Volmer of Lyman will look to win the girls high jump while competing against Mallory Valburg of Jones County and Ally Mullaney and Patricia Lammers of Miller. The Potter County girls will compete in the 4×800 relay race while the Miller and Jones County boys compete in the 4×800. Caden Gortmaker of Miller along with Chastin Tollakson of Jones County and Stockton McClanahan of Lyman will compete in the triple jump and Tanner Vandervorst of Potter county will compete in the pole vault.
The day kicks off at 12:30 in Sioux Falls on Thursday. Friday will begin at 9:00 AM and Saturday will start at 9:30.
