Governor Baseball Ends in First Round Defeat to Yankton

The Pierre Governors could only muster four hits on Saturday in the first round of the playoffs and the Yankton Bucks would win 7-1 as the season came to an end.

Pierre tied the game up in the bottom of third inning on a George Stalley RBI single. However, four errors in the ball game would allow two unearned runs to score as Yankton took advantage of the defensive miscues. Brady Getz went four innings allowing three runs, two earned on five hits, three walks and striking out two. Jackson Edman was tagged for another earned run in two innings of relief on just one hit allowed and three strikeouts. Jayden Wiebe nearly had a scoreless top of the seventh but a two RBI double by Landon Loecker pushed the lead to six as Yankton scored two in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Yankton would go on to lose against Roosevelt in the region championship game as the Roughriders had a walk-off sacrifice fly to defeat the Bucks 2-1.

Pierre finishes with a 14-13 record on the year. Gary Nedved, Matthew Hanson, Spencer Kelly, Getz and Spencer Letellier all finish their careers with the Governors. Next up is Post 8 baseball. Senior Legion games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports throughout the summer. The first games are scheduled for Tuesday, May 31 in Brookings with first pitch at 5:00.
