Local Groups Donate New Flagpole, Flag For Hyde Stadium

PIERRE — A new flag pole is supporting the stars and stripes over the Hyde Stadium in Pierre. The pole is just over the right-center field fence to the first base side of the scoreboard. The flag pole is a donation to the city from American Legion Post Eight. Jim Goodwin is Athletic Officer for Post Eight…

American Legion Post Eight Commander Aaron Swan says Goodwin came to the Executive Board with the replacement recommendation…

The flagpole is lit so the American Flag that flies on it will be illuminated at night. The pole was installed earlier in May. Hyde Stadium is owned and operated by the City of Pierre and is home to Post Eight American Legion Baseball, the Pierre Governor spring baseball team and the Expedition League Pierre Trappers. The Stadium was built in 1935 in a partnership with the Chas L. Hyde family, Federal Emergency Relief Administration and Pierre City Commission.
