Dog Saves Family From Pierre House Fire

PIERRE — A Pierre home is a total loss after fire races through the structure late Tuesday night. Pierre Fire Department Ladder Captain Doug Gordon says crews responded to the 1800 block of Vista Ridge Place around 11 pm…

Gordon says the fire grew into much of the home from there…

Gordon says firefighters and numerous witnesses recall hearing some sort of explosion with the fire…

The home was occupied at the time of the blaze…

The cause of the fire is under investigation. While the immediate needs of the family are being met, there are a number of ways to help the family. An account has been set up at Oahe Federal Credit Union under the name Kerr Family Benefit. A GoFundMe account has also been set up and donations can be made via Venmo (Steven-Kerr-88). In an ironic twist of fate, the family dog who alerted to the fire, Sophie and rescued the Kerr Family, is a rescue dog, adopted by the Kerrs.
