The Pierre Governors came into the day looking to get above .500 again on the season and finished with a sweep of the Mitchell Kernels to close out the regular season with 2-1 and 6-1 wins.
Grayson Hunsley drove in the game’s first one in the top of the first in game one with an RBI infield single with the bases loaded as the Governors held the lead until the top of the fifth. With the game tied 1-1, Lincoln Kienholz singled with two outs and Gary Nedved drove in the go-ahead winning run with a double to give the Govs a 2-1 lead. Jackson Edman picked up the win in his four innings of relief, allowing three hits, one run and a strikeout. Brady Getz went three innings allowing just one hit, two walks and six strikeouts.
In the second game, Jayden Wiebe led off the bottom of the first with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from George Stalley to put the Govs up. Tied 1-1 again, this time in the fourth, Brecken Krueger drove in what would be the winning run with two outs in the inning. Kienholz would hit a two run inside the park homer to make it 4-1 and Hunsley added another RBI on the day to cushion the Governors advantage to 5-1. Wiebe picked up the last RBI with a sac fly. Christian Busch went the first two innings on the mound with two hits, one unearned run, two walks and three strike outs. Spencer Easland went the following two innings allowing just one hit, two walks and a strikeout and Wiebe closed it out with the final three innings allowing just two hits and striking out three.
Pierre will await the opponent, location and time of its first game for Saturday which will be available Wednesday when the bracket is set and the host teams set the times. KCCR Sports will have coverage of the playoffs with Jon Winkler on the call.
