Easland Walks Off Game One, Governors Fall in Game Two

The Pierre Governors had a walk-off sacrifice fly by Spencer Easland in game one in a 5-4 win before falling 6-1 in game two splitting a doubleheader with Jefferson on Friday.

The Governors struck for three runs in the third inning thanks to RBIs from both Lincoln Kienholz and Grayson Hunsley. However, Jefferson responded with a run in the top of the fourth as Brady Getz went four and two thirds inning allowing just one run on two hits, one walk and four strikeouts. Easland came in relief and gave up three runs on four hits in two thirds of an inning, but had a chance to redeem himself at the plate. After two errors in the bottom of the seventh, including one allowing the tying run to score, Easland hit a drive out to left center field scoring Kienholz on the sac fly to win the ballgame.

In game two, Jefferson scored first in the top of the first inning but Pierre responded in the bottom of the first. Jayden Wiebe tripled to lead off the game and scored on Kienholz sacrifice fly to tie it 1-1, but it was the only run the Governors could muster in the second game. Thomas Heiberger hit a two run shot in the top of the sixth to give the Cavs a 6-1 lead. Jett Zabel went five innings giving up four runs, three earned, on five hits, five walks and three strikeouts.

The Governors remain at .500 and will take on the Mitchell Kernels to finish out the season on Tuesday at Hyde Stadium. Coverage will begin at 6:10 with first pitch at 6:30 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports.
