Pierre Woman Arrested Friday After Trying To Get Away From Police Twice

PIERRE — A Pierre woman is arrested Friday after attempting to evade police twice. Captain Bryan Walz says an officer was called to the 1700 block of Garfield Avenue around 12:45 pm for a crash. The person who reported damage told police they thought the vehicle next to them caused the damage. As officers continued to gather information, the driver of the suspect vehicle arrived, got in their car and began to leave. As the officer tried to talk to the suspect, 32 year-old Julie Collins, Collins sped away. The officer then drove to stop Collins again, but Collins failed to stop when the officer used his car’s lights and siren. Collins stopped her vehicle in the middle of Garfield Avenue north of the original business’s parking lot. When the officer tried to talk with Collins then, she again drove off. Officers pursued Collins, this time coming to a stop on Fourth Street near Patron Parkway. Collins was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Aggravated Eluding, Reckless Driving and Driving While Intoxicated.
