Pierre Baseball Finally has Home Opener, Faces Huron in JV, Varsity Doubleheader

It’s been 11 months since the Pierre Governor baseball team has been at home and tonight, the Governors make their long awaited home opener taking on the Huron Tigers in a JV, varsity doubleheader.

The Governors sit at 4-6 on the season and currently in 11th place in the Class A standings after the weekend concluded. However, Pierre will have 16 straight home games starting tonight to finish out the season. Pierre scored 47 runs over the four games last weekend but still just went 1-3 as the pitching staff and defense will need to come along like the offense has. George Stalley had one of the best weekends of any Governor as he totaled six hits on Saturday even coming off the bench with four doubles. The Governors totaled 33 hits just on Saturday alone.

The Huron Tigers are at 6-5 on the year and have beaten Harrisburg and Jefferson, two opponents who beat Pierre a couple of weekends ago. The Tigers took the undefeated Roosevelt Rough Riders to a 10-inning game before falling 3-2. Huron is currently in ninth place in the standings.

The Governors will begin the day with the JV contest at 5:00 and the varsity game will follow. Coverage of the varsity game will begin around 6:45 with first pitch around 7:00 on 1240 AM and 98.9 FM KCCR and on YouTube to watch for free at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Blake Dean on the call.
