Governors Can’t Complete Comeback, Swept by Lincoln

The Pierre Governors were controlled in the first game falling 13-1 in five innings before nearly mounting an eight run comeback but fell just short in a 10-9 loss, being swept by the Lincoln Patriots on Friday.

The Patriots scored five runs in both the third and fourth innings as the Governors had no answer offensively as they were stymied to just three hits in the 12 run loss. Gary Nedved, Matthew Hanson and Grayson Hunsley spread out the three hits over three separate innings as Spencer Easland drove in the only run of the game for Pierre on an RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning. Brady Getz took the loss as he was tagged for eight runs, three earned on seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts over two and two thirds innings. Jackson Boe went all five innings and gave up three walks with the three hits and struck out three. Sawyer Tolk went 3-3 with three RBI.

In game two, the Patriots built up a 7-1 lead using a five run fourth inning and then it was 10-2 after five innings before the Governors quickly started to mount its comeback. Pierre scored four times in the sixth including as Lincoln Kienholz went 3-3 with two RBI and then the Governors were able to take advantage of 11 total wild pitches to move base runners around with a few bringing runs home. In the seventh inning, the Governors scored three runs and had the tying run on third and the go ahead run on second, but as the wind caused havoc all evening, the wind held up Gary Nedved’s shot at the gap allowing the catch to be made and the Govs falling one run short of a wild comeback.

Pierre falls to 3-5 on the season and will have a big doubleheader on Saturday as the Governors will face Washington at 1:00 back at Harmadon. Coverage will begin at 12:40 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
