Pierre Boys Finish Second, Girls Seventh at Rapid City Track-O-Rama Nation

The Pierre Governors had a successful start to their week on Tuesday as they competed out in Rapid City at the Track-O-Rama Nation as the boys placed second and the girls seventh on the day as a total of 32 high schools were competing.

The Governor boys had three event wins on the day as Jack Merkwan took home a win in the 300 meter hurdles with a time 41.75, his best time this season. The relay team of Caden Thompson, Landon Bertram, Josh Strand and Jared Lutmer won with a time of three minutes and 49 seconds. Aaron Campbell won the javelin throw with a 146-10. Elijah Boutchee was right behind Campbell in second place in the javelin throw with a 135-01. Lutmer also finished in second in the 3200 meter run while Merkwan also finished in third in the 110 meter hurdles. Canyon Jones finished fourth in the pole vault.

On the girls side, Aleise Christopherson was second and fifth in the long jump and triple jump respectively as her second place finish was tied with Addison Cumbow’s second place finish the 100 meter hurdles for the best finish for the Governors. Maya Shorter was third in the discus throw for Pierre while Emily Lingle was fifth in the shot put and the 4×200 relay team of Dani Ringstmeyer, Ryann Barry, Christopherson and Nevaeh Baade was third. Marissa Mathews fourth in the pole vault.
