Pierre Man Arrested Friday After Trying To Break Into Residence

PIERRE — A Pierre man is arrested Friday morning after leading police on a chase after he tried entering a residence. Pierre Police Captain Bryan Walz says police were dispatched to the 2800 block of East Kay Street where a homeowner called 9-1-1 just after six A-M to report that a male subject was trying to enter his home. The homeowner stated the suspect, identified by police as David Miller, had broken a window and was gaining entry. Miller fled as police arrived. A responding officer attempted to stop a vehicle matching one that Miller had left in. That vehicle failed to stop, leading police in a pursuit. The pursuit ended in an alleyway in 200 block of South Jefferson. Miller ran to his own residence. As police got to Miller he was seen injecting himself with a substance from a hypodermic needle. Miller then fought with police as they attempted to take him into custody. Miller was transported to the Hughes County Jail on charges of Attempted First Degree Burglary, Intentional Damage to Property, Eluding, Speeding, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
