It was a game to forget in the first contest of the day in Harrisburg but a strong bounce back in Sioux Falls against Jefferson, however, the Governors dropped both games on Saturday losing 17-4 to Harrisburg and 3-2 to Jefferson.
The Governors were unable to hold the Harrisburg Tigers to a zero in any inning in the 10-run rule loss after five. Pierre walked 10 batters and a hit another as the Tigers took advantage of the walks scoring three in the first, two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth off a game ending grand slam. The Governors did walk 11 times in the game but had just two hits as they struck out 10 times.
Pierre responded well in the second game taking an early 1-0 lead on a Jett Zabel RBI fielder’s choice. Zabel was able to hold Jefferson without a run through three innings but in the top of the fourth, a base running blunder by Pierre resulted in a triple play and led to Jefferson taking the momentum and scoring all three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Governors out hit Jefferson 6-5 with Gary Nedved leading the way with three hits including a double. Grayson Hunsley had an RBI double in the top of the fourth which gave Pierre a 2-0 lead.
The Governors are now at .500 at 3-3 as they will travel to Mitchell on Friday and host Brookings on Saturday, weather pending. First pitch for Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 5:00 which will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
