Governors Fall to Brandon Valley for First Loss of Year

The Pierre Governors were unable to hold on to an early 3-0 lead as they fell to the Brandon Valley Lynx on Friday 7-5 in its first loss of the season.

Pierre opened up a 3-0 lead with two runs scoring on an error which allowed Matthew Hanson to reach base. Spencer Letellier brought home the third run with a sacrifice fly. Spencer Kelly, the starting pitcher had a 1-2-3 first inning before the Lynx scored its first run on an RBI single by Nate Myers. Brandon Valley added its second run on its first of three sacrifice flies to make it 3-2 after three innings. Jayden Wiebe secured a two-RBI single to give the Govs a 5-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Lynx answered with a two-RBI single by Cole Frisbie. Brandon Valley took its first lead in the bottom of the fifth after a passed ball tied the game and a sacrifice fly brought home the go-ahead run. An insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and the Governors stranded the bases loaded with one out in the top of the seventh as they fall for the first time in 2022.

Gary Nedved, Grayson Hunsley and Brecken Krueger each had two hits for the Govs who had nine hits, left 10 on base and struck out 12 times in the loss.

Pierre will face Harrisburg at 12:30 in Harrisburg on Saturday and Jefferson at 4:00 in Sioux Falls. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
