Pierre Tennis Begins Season with Home Triangular

The Pierre tennis team will begin its season on Tuesday as they host a triangular against Mitchell and Rapid City Central.

As a new season begins, a new coach takes the reigns of the Pierre Governor program. Emily Williamson takes over for Steve Steele. She says they are running the program differently than it has been ran in the past, but she likes the progress the boys are making…

Williamson competed on the club team at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and played in the club national tournament. However, she trained as a player and a coach at Gustavus Adolphus and trained with NCAA All-Americans and the winningest coach in NCAA history in Steve Wilkinson. She says she’s bringing a lot of what she learned to the Governors and she says the team has come out with a mindset they’re a good team and it’s been a big factor in how well practices have gone to begin the year…

The Governors have the opportunity to return eight of the nine flights this year with only their doubles flight three not returning from last year’s team. Luke Leingang will be looking for another state title in singles competition after winning flight three last year. Williamson wants to see the team come out swinging on Tuesday…

The Governors will begin the triangular at 11:00 AM against Mitchell and will face Rapid City Central at 3:00, all at Griffin Park in Pierre.
