Team SD 19U Girls Hold Off San Diego to Advance to Semifinals

Team South Dakota 19U scored twice in the second period and held off the San Diego Angels late for a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon to advance to the semifinals in Sunday evening.

Team SD and San Diego were held scoreless at the end of the first period but two quick goals by South Dakota gave them a 2-0 lead. Watertown’s Jaclyn Lloyd scored the opening goal of the game 15 seconds into the second period. Sioux Falls’ Gabby Schroeder made it 2-0 just a minute and a half later. Riley Vander Esch made 17 saves on 18 attempts.

Team SD will have a chance to avenge its first loss of the tournament as they’ll face the Steel City Selects in the semifinals. The Selects beat Team SD 2-1 in a shootout to open the tournament, and also won 5-4 in overtime in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 Sunday evening.
