Team SD’s run to a national title game came up one short as they fell 2-1 to the Canton Blades in the semifinals Sunday afternoon.
Canton scored the first goal of the game in midway through the first period although Team South Dakota outshot Canton 12-5 after the first and 21-14 after two periods. Canton added on to the lead to make it 2-0 10:39 left in the period which proved to be the winning goal. Brynlee Sabers of Mitchell scored the lone South Dakota goal with 10 seconds remaining in the game, but it was too little too late for Team SD as their run came to end. South Dakota finished the game outshooting Canton 30-26 as Marissa Ready made 24 saves in net for Team SD.
Brylee Kafka finished with six points (four goals and two assists) in the tournament. A fantastic tournament for Oahe’s Kafka, Brenna Ullman and Emily Nemec.
