Pierre Governors Swing Way to Doubleheader Sweep of Sturgis

The Pierre Governors would sweep the Sturgis Scoopers on Friday to open up the season at 2-0 winning 12-2 in five innings in the first game and 9-7 in the second game.

Pierre struck for five first inning runs taking advantage of errors as all five runs were unearned. But it was the six run fifth inning that put the Govs up by 10 runs to secure a short five inning win. Gary Nedved went 3-3 in game one with two doubles and a triple. Jett Zabel went 2-4 in the win. Lincoln Kienholz and Spencer Letellier each had two RBI. Brady Getz went all five innings giving up two runs on four hits, one walk and struck out three.

In game two, Spencer Kelly threw nine pitches in the first inning with all nine for strikes and two strikeouts as Pierre opened up a three run lead in the second. Grayson Hunsley had three RBI to lead the way for Pierre while Brecken Krueger had a two RBI double and Kienholz drove in another two runs. Kelly picked up the win on the mound in two innings of work allowing three runs on four hits. Christian Busch threw three innings and Jackson Edman finished off the win in the final two innings to hold on for a 9-7 win.

Pierre will face Rapid City Central in a JV game at 1:00 Central Time on Saturday and a varsity game at 3:00. KCCR will have the broadcast of the varsity game only on Saturday. It will also be available to watch on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
