PIERRE — Very dangerous wildfire conditions will again fall across central South Dakota. The Grassland Fire Danger Index today lists Extreme Fire Danger for Ziebach, Haakon, Jackson, Mellette and Tripp Counties. Very high fire danger is posted for Hughes, Stanley, Dewey, Jones, Lyman, Sully, Potter, Hand, Hyde, Buffalo and Brule Counties. Because of the very high fire danger a burn ban is in effect today for Hughes and Stanley Counties. Meanwhile to the south, a Red Flag Warning is in effect today for Jones, Lyman, Buffalo and Brule. The Red Flag warning extends east south of Highway 34 and west of the James River.
