Pierre Wrestling Celebrates First Girls State Title

When girls wrestling was introduced into the state of South Dakota, the Pierre Governors already had some high expectations before taking the mat, but they have for sure lived up to it winning the team state title in the first ever team championship.

Monday evening the Governors held its welcome home at the Riggs High School gym. Pierre celebrated the team state title with also celebrating Ciara Mcfarling’s second state title after her freshman campaign. The three coaches, Matt Thorson, Travis Heasley and Chad Uhrig all expressed their gratitude towards the girls and the fun they had throughout the season. Several wrestlers also spoke about how close the group was all season. Thorson says he’s happy for the girls and what they’ve accomplished this year…

Thorson is impressed with the progression the team had from the first year to the second year…

And Thorson says it’s a great feeling to be on top…

Every wrestler is able to return and compete again next year for Pierre as there were not any seniors for the second straight season.
