Governors Finish Regular Season with Girls Home Win and Boys Road Loss

The Pierre Governors finished the regular season on Saturday as both teams played the Roosevelt Roughriders and the girls picked up a win at home 67-52 while the boys would fall 63-55.

The Governor girls finished the season at 10-10 having won four in a row and seven of eight to close out the year. It’s a strong run for the Governors and they are playing their best basketball down the stretch. Now, after defeating Jefferson 43-40 on the road, the Govs will again have to see the Cavaliers as the two are the 8-9 seeds with Pierre having to travel again in the SoDak 16.

The Pierre boys held a first quarter lead on the undefeated Roosevelt Roughriders on Saturday, but the top team in the state and the defending state champions were able to hold off the Govs in Sioux Falls to claim the win. Roosevelt will look for a 20-0 mark on Monday when they take on Aberdeen Central to finish the year. With two games to be played on Monday, the SoDak 16 is not set but as it sits right now, the Jefferson Cavaliers will be hosting the Pierre Governors in the 6-11 matchup. Lincoln Kienholz had a double-double on the night going for 21 points and 10 rebounds for the 9-11 Governors.

The Pierre girls will play on Friday in the SoDak 16 and the boys will be on Saturday. Game times are yet to be released.
