Stanley County’s Hanson, Pierre Girls Team and McFarling Win State Championships

Two area kids finished as a state champion while the Pierre Girls win the first ever team state title this year as the second day concludes in Sioux Falls.

Pierre

Ciara McFarling finishes as a now a two-time state champion as she pinned her way to a 3-0 record in the state tournament to the 285 championship. Gianna Stangeland fell in the state championship as she was pinned at 53 seconds into the match finishing a strong season in second. Sydney Uhrig in the 106 and Abbigail Lewis in the 142 each finished in third place for the Pierre girls. Both Emalee Larson and Marlee Shorter finished in fourth for the Governors. The Governor girls are the first official team state champions as they scored a 146 while Canton finished with a 129.

Chase Hanson wins the state championship in the Class B 120 weight class. Hanson had a pin in his first round win at 5:07 and then won 5-2 and 6-0 to head to the championship. Hanson defeated Kellan Hurd of Miller/Highmore-Harrold in the championship match 6-3 as the junior will have another year to defend his title. Levi Stover finished his wrestling career in sixth place as he went 3-3 in the state tournament. Colton Brady’s first tournament didn’t go as he was hoping as he finished at 0-2 but is poised to return next year as he’s just a freshman.
