Pierre Governors Face Jefferson in Basketball for First Time Ever

The Pierre Governors and Sioux Falls Jefferson Cavaliers will meet up on the basketball court for the first time in history on Tuesday as the boys will play in Pierre and girls in Sioux Falls.

Both Governor teams are coming off big wins over Watertown on Friday and with two games left to play, look to make a couple of final statements heading into the SoDak 16. The Governor girls are in to tenth place and have a strong shot to fight for a home playoff game with two wins to close out the season. Jefferson is poised to finish at least .500 with Aberdeen Central on Saturday and the Governors can finish .500 if they win both this week with 1-16 Roosevelt awaiting on Saturday. Jefferson beat Lincoln on Saturday 34-31 as they have won two of their last three. However, the one loss was to Brookings, who the Governors handled a week ago.

The Governor boys can get over .500 with a win on Tuesday as they sit in 11th place in the AA standings with two games to play. Jefferson comes in at 10-8 and have dropped from fifth to eighth after a loss on Saturday to Washington and have now lost two in a row heading into tonight. Pierre won both games on a back-to-back and still has an outside shot of finishing inside the top eight with two wins this week and potentially some extra help. Head Coach Brianna Kusler says they have a lot of talented athletes on Jefferson…

Kusler says they need to be disciplined rebounding tonight…

Coverage of the boys game will begin at 6:40 with tipoff at 7:00 on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler and Nathan Naasz on the call.
