Governor Boys Can’t Mount Comeback, Pierre Girls Continue Strong Run

The Pierre Governor boys were dropped in its final home game of the season 64-54 to Sioux Falls Jefferson while the Governor girls finished off a road win over Jefferson 43-40 on Tuesday night.

Remi Price hit the go-ahead three in the final minute to give the Governors a 41-40 lead before Ryann Barry sank two free throws to close out the win as the Governors are now 9-10 and have won three in a row and now six of seven to move into eighth place in the Class AA standings with just one game left to play.

The Pierre boys were overrun by Jefferson at home as the Cavaliers controlled a 16 point lead at the half as Kaden Year hit a half court shot at the buzzer to pick up three of his game high 17. Jackson Edman finished with a team high 13 for the Governors as he returned to the lineup after missing two games. Lincoln Kienholz had 12 as the Governors were just unable to mount a comeback as the closest they were able to get was seven in the fourth quarter.

The Governors will finish the season on Saturday as the boys will travel to Roosevelt for a 4:00 tipoff while the girls will host Roosevelt and a chance to clinch a home game in the SoDak 16 next Friday with a 2:00 tip.
