Capitals Split Weekend with Sioux Center

The Oahe Capitals picked up two big points over the weekend against the Sioux Center Storm as the Caps lost the first game on Saturday 6-3, but came back for a 4-3 win on Sunday.

The Capitals had the first goal of the game waived off and then would hit two posts flush and the Storm would make them pay. Isaac Bart had five of the six goals on the evening as the Storm jumped out to a 2-0 lead and once it hit 3-1, the Caps were unable to get back within in a goal. Ashton Griese, Carter Sanderson and Keenan Howard all scored in the loss.

On Sunday and after the injury to Keller Herman on Saturday’s game, the Capitals had to mix and match some pieces and found themselves down 2-0 at the end of the first period. Ashton Griese scored two goals, one short handed to tie the game back up at 2-2 heading into the third period. Sanderson scored the second short handed goal of the game to give the Caps the lead, but it was Andre Carbonneau with 4:50 left in the third period netting the game winner, his fifth goal of the season to propel the Capitals to a 5-4 win. Kieran Duffy made 18 saves in net.

Saturday will conclude the season for the Oahe Capitals as they travel to Sioux Falls to take on the Sioux Falls 1 Flyers. Coverage will begin at 5:10 with the opening face-off at 5:30 on Capital City Rock and on YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
