Governors Start Slow, Roll to Win over Brookings

The Pierre Governors had an uneasy first quarter against the Brookings Bobcats leading just 16-14 but would eventually run through the Bobcats with a 71-45 victory on Thursday in Brookings.

The Governors had eight different players score as Lincoln Kienholz finished with a game high 22, the only player between both teams in double figures. Kienholz had the steal and dunk at the end of the first quarter to give the Governors the lead heading into the second and then Jack Merkwan, who finished with eight had a three at the buzzer to give Pierre a 35-25 lead at the half. Jett Zabel, who started in place of Jackson Edman finished with nine points, seven in the fourth as the Governors are now 8-9 on the season while the Bobcats fall to 1-14.

Pierre will face the Watertown Arrows on Friday at home. The girls game will be on Capital City Rock and the boys game on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with both tipoffs at 7:00.
