The Oahe Capitals fell victim to two of the top three teams in the state on Friday and Saturday as they close out the regular season and will await the state tournament, the first weekend in March.
The Capitals lost 5-1 on Friday to the Sioux Falls Flyers who jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and then scored three in the second. The Lady Caps would win the third period 1-0 on Ashton Lee’s 17th goal of the season, but still dropped its second straight game. On Saturday, the Aberdeen Cougars and Caps would play to a scoreless tie after the first period and an early and late period goal put the Cougars up 2-0 heading into the third. Again the Capitals would win the third period, as Brylee Kafka netted her 14th of the season after having five quality chances throughout the game, but the Cougars were able to hold on to defeat the Caps and end the regular season at 4-9-3-2.
The Capitals will be the six seed in the state tournament and will face Aberdeen again in the first game of the tournament. The Girls state tournament will be Friday through Sunday March 4-6. Capital City Rock and YouTube at Capital City Rock Sports will be your home for all 11 games of the state tournament with Jon Winkler, Jeff Anderson and Jim Lloyd bringing you the end to end coverage.
