Governor Boys, Girls Swept by Bismarck

The Governor’s Cup was renewed on Friday and the Bismarck Demons will hold the Cup as both the boys and girls Bismarck teams would win in the first set of Governor Cup games since 2000.

The Governor girls held things close and fell 48-44 to Bismarck as the girls are now 6-10 on the season and its three game win streak was snapped. Pierre stayed in the ballgame where most teams struggle and from the summer when Head Coach Kirk Beebout had said they were blown out by Bismarck, has to be much happier with the girls performance this time around.

Treysen Eaglestaff had 43 points in the boys game as Bismarck held off Pierre 75-60 in Bismarck. The Governors held a 36-35 lead at the end of the first half thanks to Jackson Edman having 11 and Matt Hanson with nine to pace the Govs in the first half. However, Eaglestaff had 21 points in the second half to push the Demons to 15-3 on the season while the Pierre boys fall to 7-9. Lincoln Kienholz finished with the team high 17 while Edman had 15 for the Governors.

The Pierre girls will play on Tuesday at home against Brookings next and the boys will be in Brookings on Thursday. Both games will be on KCCR and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with coverage for both starting at 6:40 and tipoff at 7:00.
