Cold Start to Second Half Doom Chargers to Third Straight Loss

The Sully Buttes Charger boys basketball team—playing in their fourth game in nine days—started cold in the second half, and lost 54-48 to the Herreid Selby Area Wolverines.

The Chargers trailed 16-11 after one, and 26-24 at the half.  But Sully Buttes didn’t score until the 1:20 mark left in the third quarter, even though they finished with a flurry to pull to a 32-29 third quarter score against the Wolverines.

Herreid Selby Area didn’t take advantage of a cold shooting Sully Buttes team, but ended up taking 28 free throws for the game, and hitting on 15, while the Chargers were 9 of 17 from the line.

Leading the way for Herreid Selby Area was Tray Hettick and Brendan Begemin, each scoring 16 points.  The Chargers were led by Marshall Wittler, who scored 19, while Landon Hepker added 12 points.

Sully Buttes-now 5-10-will play in a girls/ boys doubleheader Thursday night in Onida against Mobridge Pollock.  It is also Sully Buttes Hall of Fame Induction night, with player Katelynn Lamb Pottorff and teacher and coach Mark Senftner being welcomed to the hall as the latest to be enshrined.  You can hear play by play of the game Thursday night on Country 95.3FM, pierre country dot com, and on YouTube at Country 95.3FM sports with DT Meyer.
