Pierre Girls Finish Strong, Boys Fall in Last Second Shot

The Pierre Governors split its two games on Tuesday as the girls would win at home 55-39 while the boys would fall 53-52 on the road against the Huron Tigers.

The Governor boys led most of the way and had a 14 point lead at the end of the third quarter 43-29 but couldn’t muster enough points in the fourth to hold on to beat the Tigers. Lincoln Kienholz would lead the way for the Governors with 21 points while Jackson Edman would finish with 14. Blake Ellwein, an eighth grader for the Tigers hit the game winning three with just over a second to defeat the Governors and drop them to 7-8 on the season.

The Governor girls built a lead in its win over the Huron Tigers to a 13 point advantage and as the Tigers stormed back to a one possession game, the Govs didn’t let off the gas and wound up with a 16 point win. Pierre shot 5-6 in the fourth quarter from the free throw line and 8-9 in the game. Ryann Barry had eight of her game high 15 points in the fourth quarter to help seal the win. Ayvrie Kaiser tied the game high with Barry with 15 as she hit three threes in the first half and had 11 at the break. Remi Price hit two triples and finished with 11 for Pierre as six different Governors scored on the night. Heaven Gainey had 12 for Huron but was held scoreless in the fourth while Isabelle Ellwein had 11 for the Tigers who fall to 9-6 while the Governors have won three straight and are now 6-9.
