Pierre Basketball Faces Huron as Girls Host, Boys Travel

This week the Pierre Governor girls and boys basketball teams will both play on Tuesday and Friday but in separate locations. Tonight the Pierre girls will host the Huron Tigers while the boys will travel to Huron Arena.

Both Governor teams are coming in with back-to-back wins over Harrisburg and Yankton. The Governor boys are in the 11th spot in the AA standings at now 7-7. The Tigers are coming in having lost its last two to Roosevelt and Jefferson and are 4-10 on the season and sit in 15th place. It’s a must win for the Governors as they want to keep pace for a possibility of moving in the top eight heading into the SoDak 16 which is less than a month away.

The Pierre girls are in the same boat. While they are at 5-9, they’re just under two points from a top eight spot and a win against a Huron Tiger club which is 9-5 on the year, can go a long way in climbing the standings. Huron is playing well though, with five wins in its last six games and are ninth in the AA standings. The Govs are looking for its first three game win streak of the season.

Coverage of the girls game will begin around 6:40 with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports with Jon Winkler on the call.
