Fort Thompson Woman Pleads Not Guilty To Federal Indictment

PIERRE — A Fort Thompson woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assault. Acting U-S Attorney Dennis Holmes says 36 year-old Marvel Dion of Fort Thompson was originally indicted in March of 2020, but only recently, as of February 1st has entered a not guilty plea to that Indictment. The Indictment claims Dion was trying to evade federal officers by fleeing from the back of a Fort Thompson residence. As Dion attempted to leave she is accused of hitting a federal officer as she was being arrested. Dion is currently in the custody of the U-S Marshal’s Service awaiting trial. A trial date has not been set. If convicted, Dion could be sentenced to no more than eight years in federal prison and or a250-thousand dollar fine.
