Banged up Chargers Get Doubleheader Victory Sweep on the Road

The Sully Buttes Chargers came away with a doubleheader sweep at Tulare against the Hitchcock Tulare Patriots Thursday night.  They had to limp across the finish line to do it.

The Charger girls went first and rolled to a 61-34 victory over the Patriots.  Stevie Wittler and Lydia Hill each scored 17 points, while Caitlyn Birney added nine for the 10-3 Chargers.  Hitchcock Tulare is now 4-8, and was led in scoring by Katelyn Schroeder(shrayder) with 18 points.  The Charger girls came in with injuries, and-adding to it—a shorter bench, with a few players sitting out for undisclosed reasons.

Meanwhile the Sully Buttes boys scored a 48-40 win over the Patriots with a starting guard slowed down with an ankle injury, and another player suffering a back injury in the second half.  Both players came back to play, and it helped push the Charger boys record to 4-6, while Hitchcock Tulare slips to 5-6.

Leading for Sully Buttes was Landon Hepker, who found his shot and rolled to 21 points, the only player in double figures.  Hitchcock Tulare was led by Erik Salmen with 12 points.

Next up for the Chargers is yet another road trip Saturday, as they travel to Warner to take on the Monarchs.  The JV games start at 2;00pm, with the varsity girls going first at about 4:30, with the boys game to follow.
