Pierre Faces Aberdeen Central with Boys at Home, Girls on the Road

The second half of the season begins tonight for the Pierre Governors as the boys and girls will take on Aberdeen Central. The girls will travel to Aberdeen while the boys will host the Golden Eagles.

The two Aberdeen teams are going in opposite directions as the Golden Eagle girls team is struggling to compile any wins. At 1-11, Aberdeen Central is on the outside looking in at the SoDak 16 standing. In 18th place, the Golden Eagles will need a strong second half. The Governors, though, at 3-7 are in 11th right now in the AA standings and the schedule becomes lighter with more teams under .500 including tonight’s opponent. Pierre is still trying to get healthy as Layni Stevens has missed time with an injury and sickness while Emily Lingle, the other senior has not been able to play yet due to an injury.

In the boys contest at Pierre, Aberdeen sits in 10th in the standings while the Governors are at 11th. After a 4-0 start to the season, the Governors have just one win in its last six games to be even at 5-5 on the year. Aberdeen Central has lost three straight and four of its last six after starting the year at 5-1. The Golden Eagles lost on Saturday to Brandon Valley, a day after defeating the Governors in overtime.

Coverage from Riggs High School for the boys game will begin at 6:40 with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 on KCCR, kccrradio.com and on YouTube at KCCR Sports. Jon Winkler will have the call.
